GLP-1 demand and the rise of unapproved copies

Registered GLP-1 medicines like semaglutide and tirzepatide are lawful prescription products. High demand has driven a parallel market in unapproved “compounded” and online copies — a different and riskier category.

The registered, brand-name GLP-1 medicines are among the best-evidenced products covered on this site, accessed via prescription and pharmacy dispensing.

The caution is around copies sold outside that system. Regulators have repeatedly warned that unapproved or “compounded” versions do not carry the same quality and safety assurances as the registered products.
